This is the last post for my ‘Have a Nice Seoul’ series, here today I’m taking you to the most famous name of districts in Seoul right now – Gangnam. As PSY claimed in his world famous song that Gangnam is where the trendiest, the most fashionable, and the most luxurious locates. I could not miss checking out this place to see whether that’s true or not. Although I’m not that kind of those who love to watch Korean series (actually I’ve never watched one) – The girls and guys here are like they just came off the television – very well dressed, all blacks in style, holding expensive labels bags, driving extravagant cars, walking in heels and in groups. Gangnam style best describes the life of those who are rich, fashionable, trendy and independent – knowing what they want.
– Use your exploration skill , as they are many small streets to bump into unexpected labels
– Bring all your money to shop the most expensive things in town or keep them all at the hotel if you don’t want to spend
– just a visit for a window shopping and a retail store visual study is worthwhile for every fashion students
There are 4 remarkable shopping areas in Gangnam-gu : Garosu-gil, Sinsa-Dong, Cheongdam-dong, and Apgujeong Rodeo Street
European-style Shopping Street lined with ginko trees
If you are in a design field or related, you might notice that Garosu-gil is the best street to study the typefaces for retail store.
I can say that every stores in this street has a very nice visual merchandising and a logo as well.
A-LAND in Garosu-gil , 5 floors to explore. privately in love with the 5th fl. (bookstore)
Fashion and Restaurant Street
MANMADE WOOYOUNGMI simple statement for men
Some of the shops also operate their own restaurants and cafes inside, like this..MANMADE CAFE in MANMADE WOOYOUNGMI building.
MANMADE WOOYOUNGMI has a very interesting way to display their clothes. It made me feel like I was studying in a fashion museum. Location : MANMADE WOOYOUNGMI648-1, Shinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu,Seoul
I love the way he put himself in every Rick Owens shop around the world..and the clothes are super high in quality. Their philosophy and how they make clothes are very inspiring. I wish I had enough money to collect some Rick Owens pieces when I grew up.
Rick Owens – 651 Shinsa-Dong, Gangnam-Gu Seoul 135-897.
ANN DEMEULEMEESTER & TOM GREYHOUND DOWNSTAIR
Ann Demeulemeester building – amazing, surreal and moss covered
In the basement of the Ann Demeulemeester building, there is the Tom Greyhound Downstairs store. Created by Yoon Lee, a Berlin based visual artist who conceived the store as a reinterpretation of famous stories and fairy tales. Here, the basement entrance and the moss covered decoration suggest Alice’s journey down the rabbit hole. For the clothes, Tom Greyhound is a retail store containing lots of famous brands which is playful and creative.
I even found the J.W. Anderson pieces there.
LOCATION: Ann Demeulemeester BLDG. 650-14 Sinsa-Dong, Kangnam-Gu, Seoul, Korea 135-896
Note : All the shops I mention above are located near Dosan Park
Luxury Celebrity Shopping Street
My all time admired Bangkok-based label WWA, they also have a store in Seoul. So I visited there to see what’s going on with the label in Seoul and found that it’s kind of popular in some groups of people here. Niche. I also got a bag that is already out of stock in Bangkok. and I found that the sales assistant is very friendly too. impressive :)
Camille Park, the wwa seoul sales assistant and me. She was very nice and friendly, helping us with exploring the area a lot. She even told me where the greatest Korean chicken dishes are! If you had a chance to get there please say hi to her for me, she could speak English fluently as well. (Sad I found it very hard to find Korean people to speak English with me, they seem scared…)
