Unfolding design, craftsmanship and process at Burberry Makers House inspired by Henry Moore
Surrounded Islands (Project for Biscayne Bay, Greater Miami, Florida) Looking at these photos, how do you feel ? Are you smiling ? Feeling engaged more with mother nature, or just thinking ‘What’s the point of it?’ Well, these environmental artworks are realised before there is even a word environmentalism. Christo and Jeanne-Claude , collectively known as Christo, are mostly labelled as ‘wrapping artist’ from the media as they basically wrap the environment. However, if we dig deeper than that, their artworks often imply their love for earth, presenting nature and landscapes in an exciting, eye-catching new way of seeing.
Last Friday I visited the new Rikyu hair salon at Sukhumvit 24 for a haircut with my favourite Yohji. After a year of long hair It just happened that I just woke up and decided to give my neck’s back some fresh air breathe. Lucky enough, HEAD & TOE , the new notion of hair and feet interpreted by Rikyu and Muzina, was exhibiting on the 2nd floor. So I sneaked in.
While spending last autumn in London, I have visited a lot of art exhibitions displaying works from an influential generation of post-war German artists : Anselm Kiefer, Sigmar Polke, and Gerhard Richter. Living in Thailand, I had no idea about how great German artists and their influences are until I learnt from those shows, leaving me an inspiration and growing interest. Also, a lot of my German friends whom we work together during the internship experience, had introduced me to their powerful world and culture, in both art and fashion.
My London diary has a lot to do with going to galleries and museums, contemplating at artworks that some of which I can only appreciate visually. However, one of the most exciting pieces of art showing in London right now is an exhibition of new and recent works by a 82-year-old German painter Gerhard Richter. Consisting of over 40 works, with important bodies of new ‘Strip’, ‘Flow’ and ‘Doppelgrau’ paintings, the show will also include a large glass sculpture and a selection of key earlier pieces.
